12 miles

What could get me out of bed at 6:15 am on a Saturday? The threat of having to run 2 hours in the middle of a hot summer day. Even at this early hour it was already heating up fast. Started at 68F and ended at 77F. Sunny throughout. No music first loop then put on mp3 player for 2nd 5 miles. Felt mostly strong. Bottoms of my feet felt sore toward end. Slight side stitch on right side about 7 miles in that went away after a while. Beautiful views. Saw squirrels playing, farms with cows, a dead field mouse, and a dead bird.
Splits 55:15 (11:03) for 5.0, 52:28 (10:30) for 5.0), 22:18 (10:37) for 2.1.

This is easy to make and tastes ok though it's not my favorite. It only takes 10 minutes to throw things together and then you wait while it bakes for 45 minutes. The chicken tends to get a little on the dry side. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Maybe leaving it in too long? Or maybe I should cover it.

Rinse zucchini and cut into coin slices. Salt and pepper both sides. Heat some olive oil in a pan and then saute both sides until it reaches your desired tenderness (about 5 minutes)

So nice to run in warm weather. Took the LDP600 again. (11:06 for 1.1mi, 7:18 for 0.7mi, 10:40 for 1.1 mi) Afterwards ate ribs...St. Louis style ribs. yum.

Walked 3 times (1st time was about 1.5 miles after 13 minutes, 2nd time just a brief water stop, and 3rd time was going up the final hill on Main St) 1st mile was in 8:30 even though it had started out pretty slowly. Finished about top 25% in my age group! Chilly. Pleased to tie my previous record. I had originally hoped to set a new record but given my haphazard training, this was pretty good. Full Results

There was also a kids run that was cute to watch.

A friend showed me this one. (and he in turn had gotten the recipe from the Food Network) I've modified it to leave out the olives and use shallots instead. Plus I often use bacon instead of pancetta since that's what I have on hand.

Pan Cooked Chicken with Asparagus and Pancetta
Long calls for work . So tired I napped 40 min til 6:20p. M came home, we talked, I nibbled at various foods and finally out the door wearing outfit I find I like. Grey pants, long-sleeve running shirt, long-sleeve T from Wakefield Half Marathon + white reflective vest. Fast start (9:00 pace for 1.1 mi to Mill). Slowed to 10:27 pace for full loop of 1.7 mi. Then 10:45 pace to get back home again. Continued loping a little while so I could hit 4 mi. Finished pretty strong. More daydreaming of a maraton (Splits = 9:54, 17:46, 11:49 = 39:28) (40:05 for ~4mi)

Every year the Boston Marathon comes around, I start thinking I ought to return to running. So I went on a 2.2 mile run this morning. A straightforward out-n-back course. This first part was good...but even just this short distance was a big struggle for me and I felt kinda ill. Ran 10:52 for 1.1 miles. Maybe I needed some breakfast first? Then the return leg took up 16:31. I wheezed, played with a little puppy, then walked for 10 minutes (back to the edge of the big Phillips Exeter Academy lawn) and then ran home for the remaining way. (still also a struggle). Felt out of it the rest of the day. But at least I ran.
