Print Postage via Pitney-Bowes and Paypal - no monthly fee!
Tired of standing in line at the post office? If you ship a lot of packages, you may have already used the USPS's Click-n-Ship option (https://sss-web.usps.com/cns/landing.do). Very handy. But it doesn't handle first-class or media mail rates. Since we mail a lot of books (see my previous post about selling books online), we use media mail most often and had been paying a monthly service fee to endicia.com for the convenience of printing postage from home. However, Slickdeals once again rocks my world (and once again, many thanks to my sister for showing me that website). If you have a Paypal account, Slickdealer davidwlam posted about how to print media and first-class mail without paying a monthly fee (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=171359).
1. Log into your paypal account
2. Go to: https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_ship-now
3. Click on USPS and follow the instructions
If you choose 1st class or media mail, you are required to pay $0.13 for delivery confirmation but that's cheaper than what you would've paid for it at the post office and it gives you something to work with when customers complain they didn't get their package.
For weight, we had bought a small scale that goes up to 30 pounds off of ebay (I forget how much we had paid...maybe $20 total?). I have since been using it for cooking too.
Payment for the postage comes right out of your Paypal account. I'm pleased.
