Good Eating
Sep. 8th, 2007 08:45 amI haven't been spending as much time in the kitchen. Living in New Hampshire and uninspired by most of the restaurants within an easy drive of home, Michael and I had made cooking together one of our primary forms of recreation. Meanwhile Brian views cooking at home as a last resort when you lack other options. So we eat out a lot. I've been eating. Quite well since Brian is a food snob. If it doesn't taste good, he's reluctant to eat it. Also, he doesn't seem to get hunger pangs, letting him know when to eat. He just notices that if he waits too long, his stomach hurts and when he eats, he gets the 'feeling full' sensation. He finds fast food unappealing and doesn't understand why one would bother while I still think longingly of greasy fries whenever I see the Golden Arches (but I swore off McDonald's after reading Fast Food Nation). He doesn't melt at the thought of candy or junk food whereas I eye the candy aisles with the same greed I felt when I was a kid. He points out that his habits are a convenient way to keep his weight under control without having to expend much thought or energy.
